River Guide
The Company
Chinook Rafting prides itself on its reputation for safe, fun and informative rafting trips in Canada. The quality of our trips and the enthusiastic, knowledgeable and adaptable guides we employ are what make many of our guests return year after year.
The job of a professional River Guide has many duties and it's this variety that many of us enjoy. During a typical day at Chinook Rafting we expect you to do anything and everything within your level of training to ensure your own safety, the safety of your fellow guides and the safety of your guests while both on and off the river.
Having a cool job on the river is a lot of fun but with it comes much responsibility. Whether you are giving a safety briefing, guiding guests down the river, fitting the guests out with a lifejacket, or just driving the guests to the river, we expect you to be friendly, professional and courteous at all times, consistently exceeding industry standards.
There are also many tasks we expect you to help out with behind the scenes to ensure the smooth operation of our trips, such as daily vehicle inspections, raft repair, and base preparation & tidying to name but a few.

Work Load
Staff training usually begins around May 15th each year, with our first trips with guests starting shortly after this date. The season usually wraps up around Sept 15th. (However due to the unpredictable nature of the rafting industry, these dates are somewhat flexible usually by a week or two at most).
During staff training we familiarize and train all of our guides on the rivers which we run. We also hold one or two training days at the start of the season to refresh on emergency response, first aid scenarios and river rescue situations.
Chinook Rafting employs both full time and part time river guides in order to cover our slower and busier periods.
Our full time guides usually work an average of 5 days a week, (this could be 3-4 days per week at the start of the season but then 6 days a week work during the peak time).
Our part time guides are also essential to the smooth operation of the business as they can be called upon to cover busy corporate groups or just our busier weekends, so if you already have a different full time job and would like something to do on your days off then this may work for you.
At Chinook Rafting we do expect all of our guides to give 110% effort at all times. We want our guests to receive the very best experience possible, one that they will remember for years to come. We therefore do try and schedule our guides for 1-2 days off a week in order to rest and have some personal time. In return we expect you to come in ready for work on your scheduled days, fresh, and full of energy and enthusiasm.
We will expect you to work hard and complete every task to the best of your ability; however we want you to have fun too, as the guests do notice this and without them returning or telling their friends and family of their awesome rafting trip, it would be a very quiet summer for all of us.
On a final note, we hope that this may have wetted your appetite. If you are a team player with a positive attitude and are looking to further your rafting career, working for a rafting company which provides exceptional guest service while running fun and safe trips, guide on some new rivers, or just learn from some of the most experienced and knowledgeable river guides in the area, then we would love to hear from you.
See you on the river!
